A Thanksgiving Thought

As we approach Thanksgiving again this year, I though it was a rather appropriate time to discuss the topic of food, and what the Bible tells us about it.   1 Cor 6:20 tells us "... glorify God in your body, and in your spirit which are Gods." Yet many of us do not give much thought about what goes in our bodies everyday. God did give us some directions on what is to be food for us and what is not. Leviticus chapter 11 tells us what beasts we shall eat which we shall not. In Leviticus 7:25-26 we read "For whosoever eateth the fat of the beast of  which men offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, even the soul that eateth it shall be cut off from his people. Moreover ye shall eat no manner of blood, whether it be of fowl or of beast in any of your dwellings. Whatsoever soul it be that eateth any manner of blood, even that soul shall be cut off from his people." Did you know that all the infections and toxins in an animal are carried in the blood? That the fat of animals stores all the chemicals, hormones, and toxins carried by the animals? God is trying to tell us how to be healthy and take care of His temple ... YOU

What really got me thinking about this subject was an excellent book entitled What the Bible Says About Healthy Living by Rex Russell, M.D. It uses biblical principals and scriptures to help improve your physical and spiritual health. He puts forth three principles to help us make wiser decisions about our diet. The first thing he says is that we need to eat only things that God created for food. We also need to try to eat foods the way they were created, instead of the over-processed and chemically preserved versions that are often hard to avoid, and are far away from God’s design for us. Thirdly, avoid addiction to any type of food. Caffeine, sugar, and salt are examples of possible addictions. Fasting is a good way to help prevent such addictions.

We need to take heed to the laws God has established for us. He created us, and he provided for our sustenance with foods that not only fill us, but can heal us. I highly recommend this book, By heeding its principles, and especially by following the laws that God has established concerning our diet, we can add years to our life, and care for God’s temple as He truly meant us to. You can order this book from the order form in the back of the magazine for $11.00
